Kessel one of 10 finalists for Kazmaier Award

Gophers sophomore forward Amand Kessel was named one of the 10 finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. The award is given anually to the top women's hockey player.


Kessel leads Minnesota with 29 goals and 71 points. The 10 candidates will be narrowed down to three on Mar. 8.

Notabales joining Kessel are Jocelyne Lamoureux and Monique Lamoureux-Kolls of North Dakota, who the Gophers play on Friday in the seminfinals of the WCHA Tournament.

Wisconsin's Brianna Decker and Hilary Knight and Ohio State's Natalie Spooner were also named finalists, giving the WCHA a total of six.

The winner will be announced Mar. 17 during the Frozen Four in Duluth, Minn.
