Two members of the University of Minnesota men's track & field team earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association honors for the Midwest Region's 2012 Division I indoor season.
Middle-distance runner Harun Abda is the Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year and assistant coach Paul Thornton is the Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
Abda is the Big Ten conference champion in the 400-meter dash and 600. The junior also has the fastest collegiate time in the country in the 800.
Thornton is in his third year coaching sprinters, jumpers and multi-event athletes. This is his second consecutive win of the Midwest awards.
Both Abda and Thornton will compete for the final time indoor at the NCAA championships March 9-10 in Nampa, Idaho.
