The Minnesota football team added a little spice to its schedule according to a release sent out by the University Friday morning. The Gophers will drop a home-and-home series with Washington State during the 2010 and 2011 seasons, and replace it with a home-and-home series with the University of Southern California. Minnesota will host game one of the series at TCF Bank Stadium on Sept. 18, 2010 and then will travel to the Los Angeles Coliseum a year later for a Sept. 3 matchup. âÄúPlaying against arguably one of the best football teams of this decade really indicates the type of challenge Coach Brewster and our football program wants to take on,âÄù Maturi said. âÄúI think this series should really excite our fans, our players and our potential recruits.âÄù The Trojans have been a Pacific 10 powerhouse for years, winning 11 national titles, 38 conference championships and producing seven Heisman Trophy winners in their history. âÄúThis is a great opportunity for the University of Minnesota to match up with one of the finest football programs in the nation,âÄù head coach Tim Brewster said. âÄúI think it will be extremely exciting to our fans and to all Minnesotans for us to play a team the caliber of USC.” Several other schedule changes and updates through 2015 were announced Friday including the addition of games against South Dakota, North Dakota State, UNLV, San Jose State, Western Illinois, South Dakota State and Ohio. The Gophers’ game against Air Force in 2012 was canceled.
