Senior Leandro Toledo reached the finals of the ITA Central Region championships on Monday but fell short in the final match.

Toledo lost in two sets to No. 3 Axel Alvarez Llamas of Oklahoma, dropping a tiebreaker in the first set and falling 6-4 in the second.

This is the second time Toledo has lost in the Central Region final, as he also lost the championship match as a sophomore in two sets.

Toledo, the No. 22 singles player in the country, defeated Ben Lott of Drake University earlier Monday to advance.

He dropped the first set of the match but rallied to win the second set and a tiebreaker in the third.

After the loss, Toledo is 7-2 on the season. He currently holds a 2-2 record against ranked opponents.

The Gophers have a few weeks off before the Big Ten Indoor Championships, which will take place at the Baseline Tennis Center starting Oct. 31.
