Morgan, Nash honored

Sophomores David Morgan and Simon Nash were named Big Ten co-Golfers of the Week today by the conference office.

It is the first such honor for either golfer.

Morgan and Nash tied for first place at the Navy Spring Invitational last week, posting two-round scores of 150 for the tournament. Morgan opened with a round of 70 while Nash shot a 75 on both days. The Gophers took the team title at the event.

Women’s hockey

Gopher women’s hockey coach Laura Halldorson has announced that Krista Johnson from Blaine, Minn., has been accepted to the University of Minnesota and plans to join the women’s hockey program for the 2002-03 season.

Johnson, a member of the Blaine girls hockey team, had 15 goals and 25 assists as a senior, totalling 25 goals and 42 assists in her two years at Blaine.

She also assisted Blaine to two conference titles, including a second-place finish in the state when she was a junior.

A six-year letterwinner in hockey, Johnson holds all-metro and all-state honors and was a four- year member of the Minnesota Selects team. She was selected to participate in the USA Hockey Developmental Camp in 2002, held in Lake Placid, N.Y.
