Gophers set to host pro-alumni game

The Gophers baseball team will take to the field at the Metrodome for the first time in their 2000 campaign tonight.
For the ninth straight year, Minnesota will kick off it’s season with the Gopher pro-alumni game.
The 27th-ranked Gophers will go up against an alumni team led by retired Minnesota Twin Terry Steinbach and current Seattle Mariner Dan Wilson.
Future Hall of Famer Paul Molitor is still unsure if he wants to suit up for the alumni but will have a hard time saying “no” to his teammates.
“Steiny and I are trying to talk him into it,” Gophers coach John Anderson said at the basketball luncheon last week. “He hasn’t said no yet, and the pressure will be on (for him to play).”
Steinbach — the former all-star catcher — will be honored prior to the game with the Distinguished Service Award.
Tickets for the pro-alumni game are $6 and can be purchased by calling 1-800-U-GOPHER.
