Student Unions and Activities assistant director Erik Dussault justified Iggy Azalea’s presence on campus by saying, “This year’s homecoming concert is sold out, which indicates U of M students are excited to see this year’s artists.”
This comment fails to address the exact problem that some students have, which is that they, as minorities, are not represented in the decisions made by SUA.
Exactly which students bought those tickets? Students who feel unwelcome or who feel offended by the lyrics in her songs and her actions are unlikely to have been in attendance. It is disappointing that SUA has yet again failed to act in accordance with the tolerant image it wishes to create for itself.
