Men’s tennis falls again to Illinois

Illinois’ men’s tennis team flexed its strength in singles to blow past Minnesota in the finals of the Big Ten championships.
“Every person on Illinois came to play every singles match,”Minnesota coach David Geatz said. “They won some matches that I thought we would win.
“I was happy with our overall performance and it was certainly good enough to win and the match boiled down to one or two points.”
The Gophers came within two points of beating Illinois a few weeks ago in Big Ten play.
After taking the doubles point Sunday, the Illini took three of the six singles matches to lock the win. They were leading in one other match which was abandoned.
“Our goal was to come in and play an aggressive style of tennis and we did that,”Illinois coach Craig Tilley said. “I was very happy with the performance today.”
