Two injured in transitway collision

A Campus Connector collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, sending the two adults in the Jeep to the hospital. The collision occurred at the intersection of the University transitway and Malcolm Avenue Southeast. No one in the bus was injured, police said. Witnesses said the Jeep’s driver and passenger, a man and woman in their late 20s or early 30s, were transported from the scene in an ambulance. Several witnesses said the Jeep sped through neighboring business parking lots, then drove into the intersection without pausing at a stop sign. Witnesses disagreed on whether electronic warning signs at the intersection were flashing at the time of the accident. One witness who owns a neighboring business said campus buses have crashed six times at the intersection in the past two years. He said this accident was the worst.
