A small fire ignited sometime around 8 a.m. Monday in room 21 at Varsity Apartments on 15th Avenue Southeast, near campus.
The Minneapolis fire and police departments arrived shortly after the fire was reported, evacuated tenants and blocked off the surrounding roads. Firefighters had the blaze under control within 20 minutes.
No one was reported injured.
The cause of the fire is unknown. Phil Rusciano, an employee of Service Master who was cleaning after the fire was extinguished, said he heard the fire might have been started by a closet light bulb.
Fire department officials could not be reached for comment.
