No. 1 ‘Bama

The eighth-ranked Gophers gymnastics team will take on No. 1 Alabama this Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
This weekend’s meet will be the third consecutive against a top-five team in the country. Minnesota defeated fifth-ranked Michigan on Jan. 15 and lost to second-ranked Utah last weekend.
Alabama finished third last year at the NCAA championships, and earned its No. 1 ranking by beating Auburn last week.
Last year, Minnesota beat Alabama in the first meet of the season in front of a Sports Pavilion record crowd of 3,422, marking the first time Minnesota had defeated the Crimson Tide.
Baseball Alumni Game
The 26th-ranked Minnesota baseball team will host the Galyan’s Gopher Pro-Alumni baseball game at the Metrodome on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
For the past seven years, former Gophers greats get together and take on the current squad.
“Our professional alumni game is really an opportunity to celebrate our tradition,” Gophers coach Jon Anderson said. “But it’s also for the players.”
Paul Molitor, Terry Steinbach, Brent Gates and Dan Wilson are among the Major Leaguers who are Gophers alumni.
“You bring back people who represent the values you try to build your program on,” Anderson said. “They are real people, and our players get opportunities to meet them and to understand who they are and why it’s so special to be part of our family.”
Fans attending the game will receive a 1999 Minnesota baseball schedule poster, and drawings for autographed baseballs will be held throughout.
All tickets are $6.
