The Big Ten conference named University of Minnesota mid-distance track runner Harun Abda its Track Athlete of the Week today. The junior receives this honor for the first time in his collegiate career after a record breaking performance at last weekend’s Bill Bergan Invitational in Iowa.
Abda won the 800-meter-run with a time of 1:46.97. Not only does this automatically qualify him for the NCAA Championship meet in March for this event, but it is also an all-time Minnesota record and the fastest time in the country at the moment.
Abda also anchored the winning 4×400-meter-relay team. The relay’s overall time was 3:09.93, but Abda recorded a split time of 45.8 seconds.
