Men’s Hockey: Minnesota up 3-1 after second

Brian Deutsch

Wow, Minnesota put just three shots on goal in the second period, while the Tigers threw another 11 onto the shot chart.  Despite that, the Gophers increased their lead to 3-1 thanks to another power-play goal.  Although the line has no points so far, the combo of Miller-Fisher-Bostrom looks really good – great energy despite the fact that Fisher and Miller have played in a combined four games counting tonight.

Goal Breakdown:

10:06, MN Goal, 3-1: With Guentzel again in the penalty box, Minnesota got that all-important two-goal cushion heading into the third period when Cade Fairchild fired a wrist shot from the point for his third goal of the year. Schroeder and Stoa assisted on the play. Now all three of the Gophers headed to the World Juniors later this month have tallied a point tonight (Schroeder has two assists, while Hoeffel and Fairchild each have a goal).
