MOA crash victim identified

The driver of the U-Haul truck that was killed in Mall of America parking lot Friday, has been identified as Raheem Aaron Waheed, according to the Star Tribune.

Waheed, 52, died after driving into an area of the West parking lot that was too low for the truck.

Authorities said he ignored the height warning for the entrance and crashed into the concrete-and-steel support beam, causing it to fall on the truck.

Since the incident, structural engineers have examined the lot and determined it is safe to be used.

The Hennepin County medical examiner's office said the cause of Waheed’s death has yet to be determined. Authorities have stated that the incident was an accident.

According to KSTP, Waheed died on the scene.

A 45-year-old woman and her daughter, also in the truck during the crash were able to get out and were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
