Loud cheers from the Gophers players were abundant all weekend at the annual Gopher Invitational.

“We had very high intensity on the court, we were excited to get out there and play,” said sophomore Kalyssa Hall.

Three Gophers were crowned as champions, and the team added two more victories in doubles play. Barbara Mancera, Cammy Frei and Hall all won their respective singles flights.

Four Gophers advanced to the finals in their single flights — River Hart, Mancera, Frei, and Hall. Eight Gophers players advanced to the semifinals in singles. Hart lost to Amanda Rebol of North Carolina State in her final match. The three Minnesota players to enter the final round of singles flights earned victories, marking the first time the team has won three singles flights in the tournament since 2007.

On Saturday, five doubles pairings won their respective flights. The final day in doubles, the Gophers took home two victories.

Minnesota’s next tournament is the All-American Championships on Sept. 30 in Pacific Palisades, California.

“We have been working really hard in practice and it was good to see where we were at and what we can work on,” Frei said.
