Wendell, Wacker earn honors

Krissy Wendell and Becky Wacker earned WCHA weekly awards for their performances against Bemidji State last weekend. The duo combined for 12 points on the weekend to help the Gophers to a two-game sweep over the Beavers.

Wendell was named the WCHA offensive player of the week for her seven points, while Wacker had five en route to rookie of the week accolades. The Gophers have had 11 WCHA weekly honors this season.

Wendell started the series with a goal and two assists, including the game-winning tally, to aid the Gophers to a 4-1 win. Wendell, a Brooklyn Park, Minn., native, added a goal and three assists in the 4-0 shutout the following day. She capitalized on two of her seven shots in the series for a .286 shooting clip. With her seven points, Wendell is one point shy of her 100th career point as Gopher.

Wacker shares the rookie of the week honor with Wisconsin’s Sara Bauer. Wacker, a York, Maine, native, scored a goal and an assist in the first win over BSU. She followed the performance scoring her 10th goal of the season and added two assists for a total of 16 points in her freshman campaign.
