Director search to begin soon

.University President Mark Yudof said Friday a new search for a men’s athletics director would possibly begin within two weeks.
“Vice President (Tonya Moten) Brown is going through our procedures in appointing search committees and what specific individuals will be invited to participate in the search,” Yudof said.
University administrators will look for representatives of faculty, students and the athletics department for the committee.
“(The committee) has to be broadly representative,” Yudof explained.
Tom Moe, University interim men’s athletics director, was unavailable for comment Friday.
Dan Monson, University men’s basketball coach, said with the wide array of members that will be chosen to serve on the committee, it is necessary coaches are also represented.
“We need people here to know what it’s like to be a coach,” Monson said.
He also said University administration has been communicating with coaches and athletics officials about the upcoming search and allowing them to voice their opinions.
“Yudof and Brown have been active in keeping us abreast on the issue,” Monson said.
He said he hopes whomever is chosen to fill the position has been an athletics director before. Extensive experience in athletics is necessary to head an athletics department at a school the size of the University, he explained.
“This decision directly affects the programs and the teams,” Monson said.
