Gophers men’s golfer James McLean was named Big Ten athlete of the week for his course record score of 63 in Saturday’s Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. The sophomore captured individual medalist honors to lead the Gophers to the team title in the 18-team event.
McLean, a first-team All-American as a freshman, is in the hunt for his second-straight Les Bolstad Award, which is given annually to the golfer with the lowest stroke average in the conference season. McLean currently leads the Big Ten with a scoring average of 70.269, less than two-tenths of a stroke ahead of Northwestern’s Luke Donald.
