Google: Gmail and YouTube blocked in Iran

Google has confirmed its search functions, Google Video, YouTube and Gmail has been blocked in Iran since Feb. 10, Bloomberg reported.

About 30 million Iranian users have been unable to access Google's services, along with Microsoft's Hotmail and other websites. Iranian authorities claim to be unaware of the issue.

Iran employs some of the most sophisticated online filtering and censorship technology in the world.

Last year, Egyptian authorities shutdown its country's Internet as protests against then-president Hosni Mubarak escalated. Scattered demonstrations have continued in Iran since last year's Arab Spring revolts and 2009's Green Revolution.
