University of Minnesota Vice President for University Services Pamela Wheelock announced Tuesday her resignation, effective Aug. 15, according to an email statement to staff and colleagues.

Wheelock cited President Eric Kaler’s recent decision to reorganize the University’s leadership structure and create a Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations position as her reason for stepping down.

Though the two considered her transition to the new position, Wheelock said in the email, it didn’t fit her “professional goals and leadership needs.”

Wheelock took on the vice president role in August 2012 after working as St. Paul deputy mayor, interim president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and a Bush Foundation leader.

As vice president, she oversaw campus infrastructure, safety and more than 3,000 University employees.
