Derek McCallum, fresh off an outstanding junior season, has agreed to a contract with the Minnesota Twins.
The fourth round pick by the Twins signed a contract late Sunday, officially ending his career at the University where he was an All-American.
"It was a tough decision," he said. "I had an awesome three years at the U. What an experience, a great coaching staff, I couldn’t have asked for more."
McCallum had a spectacular season, where he led the Big Ten in most offensive categories including home runs (18) and RBI (86).
McCallum’s contract with the Twins is expected to contain a signing bonus of approximately $210,000.
He will report to Fort Meyers, Fla., home of the Twins Minor League Camp, and is expected to begin his professional career in the Rookie Appalachian League playing for Elizabethton.
