Hannibal Buress
Comedian Hannibal Buress returns to the Varsity Theater for three days and five shows of laughter. Buress is currently on his tour, “The Comedy Camisado.” Back after his February 2014 show at the Varsity, the former Saturday Night Live writer is on break from hosting his Comedy Central show “Why? with Hannibal Buress.” Sure to bring fun and entertainment, Buress is the must-see of the weekend.

Festival Palomino
Headlined and hosted by Minnesota favorite Trampled by Turtles, First Avenue and promoter Rose Presents bring us Festival Palomino. The festival is back to Canterbury Park for its second year in a row. Featuring artists such as Dr. Dog, Benjamin Booker and Shakey Graves, the festival will put you in indie-rock heaven. The gathering is family-friendly and an easy 30-minute drive out of Minneapolis. With food, drinks and live music, the festival has something for everyone to enjoy.

“To Kill a Mockingbid”
With Lee’s new book “Go Set a Watchman” published just months ago, there is no better time to see Harper Lee’s timeless original at the Guthrie Theater. Based off the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the story is told through the eyes of Scout Finch, daughter of lawyer and protagonist Atticus Finch. It is a story of tolerance and acceptance that everyone should hear. The play is directed by John Miller-Stephany and is truly a classic.

“The Story of Bonny Boy Slim”
Guitarist Gary Clark Jr. released his new album, “The Story of Sonny Boy Slim,” on Sept. 11. It features new hits such as “Church” and “Grinder.” Clark Jr.’s insane guitar talent has been compared to that of Jimi Hendrix and is showcased on the album. Clark Jr. has not released an album since 2012’s “Blak and Blu,” which featured the hit “Ain’t Messin ‘Round.” His new album has a blues feel to it, compared to 2012’s upbeat beats. There is no doubt that Gary Clark Jr. is an artist to watch.

“Dear White People”
Partially shot on the University of Minnesota campus, “Dear White People” was just released on Netflix. It tells the story of clashing black and white cultures on a preppy college campus with a comedic edge. The movie was released in 2014 and comments on relevant issues. It is a must-see for University students.
