Sarinee Thitiratanakorn turned in her best performance of the season in the Web.com Intercollegiate this week.
But because she competed individually, her score didn’t count toward the team’s, and the Gophers tied for 11th.
If Thitiratanakorn’s score would’ve been in Minnesota’s lineup, the team would have finished in seventh place.
Instead, it finished at 34-over par shooting 298-295-305 — 898 as a team.
On Monday, the meet’s first day, Minnesota was in eighth place after playing two rounds — a physically demanding task, even for professionals.
But the Gophers fell on Tuesday, shooting their worst round and finishing the round 17-over par.
Senior Anna Laorr led Minnesota, ending with a team-low 3-over par (73-73-73 — 219) and tying for 22nd.
Laorr either led the team or was sitting two strokes back in the team’s past three tournaments.
Thitiratanakorn, competing individually, finished in a tie for 32nd shooting 6-over par (73-74-75 — 222), and senior Carmen Laguna recorded a 9-over (76-74-75 — 225), which put her in a tie for 48th.
Sophomore Emie Peronnin shot a 10-over par (72-77-77 — 226), ending in a tie for 54th.
The two traveling freshmen rounded out the bottom, tying for 73rd, as they both shot 16-over par. Both Celia Kuenster’s and Sabrine Garrison’s first and third rounds were rough — they shot a combined 28-over par.
But they both rebounded well on the second round, shooting a combined 4-over par highlighted by Kuenster’s 1-over par 73.
The Gophers have one more tournament in mid-April before the Big Ten championships later that month.
