Student groups to host State of the Union event

The event at Tony’s Diner in Dinkytown will begin at 7:30 p.m. and end with a discussion of the speech.

University of Minnesota student groups will watch and discuss the State of the Union address by President Barack Obama on Tuesday night in Dinkytown.

The event, organized for the first time by Students Organizing for America President Jeb Saelens and officer Jonathan Hoffmann, is being held in conjunction with the College Democrats. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. at TonyâÄôs Diner.

Afterwards, College Democrats Vice-President Thomas Trehus said students will stay for about a half hour to discuss important highlights in the address.

âÄúAfter the speech we want to start some conversation about the speech itself and what it lays out for us as college students,âÄù Saelens said.

The State of the Union address begins at 8 p.m.
