Culture compass: If the Super Bowl isn’t your thing

There’s much more to do this weekend in Minneapolis.

Friday: G Herbo at Skyway Theatre

The self-proclaimed “non-drill rapper” (debatable) heads to Skyway Theatre this Friday for a show that will undoubtedly trap. Coming from Chicago, the rapper is used to getting rowdy crowds going and mosh pits forming. Having recently released his new single “Up It,” you can be ready for new slaps like this one, and old tracks like “Lord Knows” to charge the night with super sounds.

Where: Skyway Theatre, 711 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis

When: 8 p.m.

Cost: $25

Saturday: Bauhaus Brew Labs Pupper Bowl

It’s kind of Super Bowl related but — let’s be real — not really. Head to Bauhaus Brew Labs on Saturday for some good drinks and a lot of puppies. With their second annual Pupper Bowl, the establishment invites everyone to come in and partake in puppy-centric activities. Broken down by weight class, enter your “pupper” to win different “bowls” throughout the day. Entering your “doggo” gets you two beers and your contestant a bandana. Don’t have a player of your own? Stop by early for an adoption event to draft your newest addition to the family. Down, set, bark!

Where: Bauhaus Brew Labs, 1315 Tyler St. NE., Minneapolis

When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cost: $16 to participate (21+, all ages can watch)

Sunday: Minneapolis Motorcycle Show

Dreaming of cruising into the sunset without getting frostbite? Same. On Sunday, fantasize a little more and head to the Minneapolis Motorcycle show downtown to take a look at some sweet bikes. From classics that you can picture James Dean hopping on, to Shibuya-worthy crotch rockets, this international show takes a pit stop here in the cities. With simulations, the show will leave you ready to pack up and head for the open road.

Where: Minneapolis Convention Center, 1301 2nd Ave. S., Minneapolis

When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: $16

Experience this: Chinese New Year

With the Chinese New Year sparkling on the horizon, check out a slew of ways to experience this dazzling holiday throughout next week. From lunch specials to outstanding performances, the Twin Cities hosts a large population of celebrators — try breaking out of your comfort zone and join the fun!

Think about this: summer

Must be nice, right? It’s important to keep a positive mindset this time of year, as classes start to ramp up and the nights don’t get any shorter. Taking some short breaks from studying, throwing on California garage rock and pretending you’re on Pacific Beach is a surefire way to rejuvenate and keep the inspiration coming during our polar vortex extravaganza of a winter.

Stay this: cozy

Fall-asleep-before-you-leave-the-house cozy is what you should be on these cold winter days. Take advice from A$AP Mob and bust out your grooviest of sweaters, jiggiest of warm-up pants and baggiest of sweatshirts to stay warm and drip with heat for these next few months. Take some time off, throw on Cozy Tapes: Vol. 1 and 2 and vibe out — know what I’m talkin’ ‘bout?
