A week after being fired at Minnesota, Tubby Smith has agreed to terms with Texas Tech to become its next men’s basketball coach.
Texas Tech will hold a news conference to announce Smith's hiring at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Smith compiled a 124-81 record at Minnesota but finished 46-62 in conference play.
The 61-year-old coach, who won a national championship with Kentucky in 1998, earned the Gophers’ first NCAA tournament win since 1997 this season.
He would be Texas Tech’s fourth coach in as many seasons. The Red Raiders have won four conference games in the past two seasons.
The Gophers have yet to announce Smith’s replacement.
