Several members of the Gophers women's swimming and diving team won weekly Big Ten conference awards Tuesday.
Sophomore Jessica Plant earned the Co-Swimmer of the Week award alongside Wisconsin's Ivy Martin. Plant won and recorded meet records in all of her three events Friday when Minnesota hosted Iowa State. She touched the wall in 56.73 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke, 2:01.71 in the 200 backstroke and 3:28.30 in the 400 freestyle relay. This is the first weekly award of her career, and she follows teammate Tess Behrens, who won last week.
The conference named junior Maggie Keefer its Diver of the Week. Keefer won both the 1- and 3-meter events against Iowa State. Her scores of 289.72 and 302.25 were NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks. This is Keefer's sixth career award but first of the season after her teammate Sarah McCrady won last week.
Kierra Smith garnered the Freshman of the Week title. She won the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley with times of 1:02.77 and 2:04.48, respectively. Both times were career bests and meet records. She also placed fourth in the 100 butterfly. This is her first weekly award. She follows teammate Lauren Votava, who won last week.
The women compete again Saturday in Kansas.
