Former Gophers diver Kelci Bryant and three-meter synchronized springboard partner Abby Johnston won the silver medal at the Olympics on Sunday.
Throughout the five dives, the U.S. pair collected 321.9 points and never fell out of a podium place. Chinese duo Zi He and Minxia Wu took the gold convincingly with 346.2 points, and Canadians Jennifer Abel and Emilie Heymans bumped Italy for the bronze with 316.8 points.
Bryant and former partner Ariel Rittenhouse placed just off the podium in fourth place at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Also on Sunday, former Gophers swimmer Jillian Tyler qualified for the 100-meter breaststroke semifinal for Team Canada. She placed sixth in her heat and 15th overall to squeeze into the top-16. She touched the wall at 1:07.81. Tyler will compete later today for a spot in the final on Monday.
