Gophers swimmer Kyler Van Swol earned national recognition Tuesday, as Collegeswimming.com named Van Swol the Counsilman Hunsaker Division I Swimmer of the Week.
The Big Ten conference also awarded Van Swol its Swimmer of the Week award Tuesday.
Van Swol won three of his four events Friday against Iowa in the Gophers' 165.5-132.5 win. His 100-yard butterfly time of 47.82 seconds is the fastest in the nation so far this season. His 200 butterfly time of 1:47.47 ranks sixth nationally and fourth in the Big Ten. Both marks are NCAA provisional qualifying.
Van Swol is also part of the 200 medley relay team, which posted the second-fastest time in the Big Ten and third-fastest time in the nation at 1:29.06.
Gophers swimming returns to action this weekend when the University hosts USA Swimming's Minneapolis Grand Prix.
