Fairview employee allegedly raped patient

The alleged rape occurred July 30, but was not reported to police until recently.

A 55-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a staff member at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, police said Wednesday. The alleged rape occurred during the night of July 30 while the woman, who was described as a âÄúvulnerable adult,âÄù was a patient at the hospital, University police Deputy Chief Chuck Miner said. âÄúWeâÄôve engaged in a thorough review and to this point have not identified any safety concerns or found any evidence of any inappropriate behavior,âÄù said hospital spokesman Ryan Davenport. âÄúProviding safe patient care remains our top priority.âÄù Miner could not comment with more specificity on the relationship between the victim and her alleged attacker. University police are investigating the case. The woman gave police a description of a possible suspect, according to the report. The woman did not immediately file a report until she had thought over the matter in the ensuing weeks, Miner said.
