The Big Ten honored Gophers golfer Erik Van Rooyen as its Player of the Week on Wednesday. The award is Van Rooyen's first and Minnesota's first since Robert Bell was honored in September 2011.
Van Rooyen, a senior from South Africa, finished second in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate this past weekend and helped the Gophers to a fourth-place finish.
The second-place finish is the best of Van Rooyen's career and is also his sixth career top-10 result.
Van Rooyen leads the Gophers with a 73.77 stroke average, and his career average of 73.69 is the ninth-best average in program history.
