For the second straight week, a freshman from the Gophers women's hockey team has received a weekly honor from the WCHA. Maryanne Menefee was named WCHA Rookie of the Week after the Gophers swept St. Cloud State.
On Friday, Menefee scored the Gophers' first goal and recorded an assist in Minnesota's 7-1 win. The next night, she added two goals.
Menefee currently is third on the team with nine points. She sits behind her two linemates, Hannah Brandt and Amanda Kessel. Brandt was given the honor last week.
The Gophers return to action Oct. 12-13 in Canton, N.Y., against St. Lawrence.
