Powell endorses the $150 million man

After raising a whopping $150 million in September, Barack Obama just obliterated the previous fundraising record which (surprise, surprise) he held with the $66 million he raised in August. He added 632,000 new donors to his campaign in the same month, bringing his total to 3.1 million. Obama also wrapped up two prominent endorsements on top of it in the past few days from The Washington Post and Colin Powell While the Post’s endorsement is significant, it is perhaps Powell’s endorsement that will make the biggest waves in the political landscape. He and John McCain have been friends “for decades” and Powell has advised the candidate on foreign policy, according to the New York Times. Update: McCain responds on Fox News here: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/19/rough-sunday-for-mccain/ “Well, I’ve always admired and respected General Powell,’’ he said. “We’re longtime friends. This doesn’t come as a surprise. But I’m also very pleased to have the endorsement of four former Secretaries of State, State Kissinger, Baker, Eagleburger and Haig and I’m proud to have the endorsement of well over 200 retired army generals and admirals. I respect and continue to respect and admire Secretary Powell.’’ This is all comes as polls continue to favor Obama across the country and in Minnesota in particular. Despite McCain’s strong performance in the debate, there hasn’t been a drastic change in popular opinion, it seems. So how do you see this shaking out? A continued slide for McCain until Election Day or does the self-described Maverick have another rally in him?
