Some WI high schools have prohibited grinding

High schools in Wausau, Wis. now require students to sign a code of conduct saying they will not dance inappropriately at prom, the Pioneer Press reported.

Dancing inappropriately includes "grinding," and signing the code of conduct is mandatory to attend the dance, according to the Wausau Daily Herald.

"Kids' way of dancing changed, it was getting more and more, I don't know what the right word is…getting more physical, I guess you could say," said Joe Svitak, associate principal of Wausau East High School. "They were doing things on the dance floor that would have got them arrested on the street."

Many students were upset by the requirement, while others said they did not think students would adhere to it.

"When I first read it, I was laughing. I kind of thought it was a joke," said Rebecca Rist, 18, a senior at Wausau East High School.

Whether students will refrain from grinding and whether this will start a trend at other high schools remains to be seen.
