The U.S. women's basketball team tied the U.S. record for most points in a game at the Olympics in its 114-66 thrashing of China on Sunday.
The U.S. had set the record at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. That year also marked the last time the Americans lost an Olympic game as they settled for third place.
After keeping up wtih the U.S. in the first quarter, the Chinese were outscored 30-8 in the second quarter. The U.S. increased the pressure again in the second half, scoring 53 points to China's 30.
Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore started her second consecutive game for the U.S. She played 19 minutes, scoring 12 points and adding two assists. Her teammate Seimone Augustus played 19 minutes, tallying eight points and two assists, and her two-point shot gave the U.S. 114 points. Former Gophers star and current Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen played 16 minutes and scored 10 points with four assists.
The Americans topped their group in undefeated fashion. France did similarly in the opposite group. The U.S. will face Canada in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
