On Friday afternoon, a Ramsey County jury acquitted St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez of second degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Philando Castile last summer.

The verdict struck Castile’s family, community members and those who saw him in his last moments on Facebook Live. Thousands turned out to the state Capitol for protests of Yanez’s use of force and the jury’s not guilty verdict.

Those demonstrations turned into a march that landed hundreds on Interstate 94, blocking traffic and facing down police. By the end of the night, 18 arrests had been made — including journalists from the Minnesota Daily and City Pages.
