Former Gophers swimmer Jillian Tyler failed to make the final of the 100-meter breaststroke Sunday at the Olympics.
Tyler finished seventh in her heat at 1:07.87 and 14th overall. She needed a top-eight time to advance to the final on Monday. In the preliminary rounds, she placed sixth in her heat and 15th overall at 1:07.81.
She placed seventh in last year's World Championships. At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Tyler placed 13th in the semifinal and also did not make the final.
Tyler has another chance to medal in Canada's 4×100 medley relay. Qualification for that race begins Friday, and the final is Saturday.
