The Gophers softball, men's tennis and men's track and field teams continued seasons of steady improvement over the weekend.

– The softball team won two games in the Big Ten tournament to advance to Sunday's final, where it lost to Wisconsin. The strong showing helped the Gophers (35-17) earn their first NCAA tournament berth since 2003 on Monday.

Junior ace Sara Moulton makes the Gophers a dangerous team at their NCAA regional in Seattle. Moulton threw two complete-game shutouts over the weekend and has won 30 of Minnesota's 35 games this season.

Minnesota will face Hawaii in the first round Friday.

– The men's tennis team made the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in three years. Top singles player Rok Bonin upset No. 29 Max Wennakoski in three sets to clinch Minnesota's 4-3 victory over Virginia Commonwealth in Friday's first round. The Gophers lost 4-0 to No. 3 Virginia on Saturday.

Sophomore Leandro Toledo capped an inconsistent season with two impressive performances. He upset No. 77 Alexis Heugas 6-2, 6-2 on Friday and led No. 2 Alex Domijan 6-4, 3-4 on Saturday in a match that was unfinished.

Bonin, a senior, will compete in the individual NCAA championships next week.

– The track and field team placed second at the Big Ten outdoor championships, winning three titles. Senior Harun Abda won the 800-meter run, and junior Zach Siegmeier won the pole vault. Senior Micah Hegerle won the hammer throw.
