Rachel Schow had a career day for the Gophers in her four events.
Schow was part of helping No. 11 Minnesota win six events at the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Mississippi on Saturday.
When she and her 4-x-100 meter team of Titania Markland, Emma Spagnola and Emerald Egwim won the event with a time of 44.84 seconds, they moved into fourth in program history. The 4-x-400 meter team of Schow, Egwim, Markland, and Val Larson won at 3:33.98 and moved into third all time. She ran a career-best in 400-meter hurdles with 59.14 seconds, bettering her time that was already top 10 in school history. Schow also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.996 seconds.
“That was definitely my best race I’ve had to date,” Schow said. “It was nice to see after spring training, after fall training all season with the whole group, to have that pay off, and I’m really excited to see what’s in store for the rest of the season.”
Egwim finished fifth in the 200-meter at 24.27 seconds. Markland finished second in 800-meter with a time of 2:10.76; Larson finished fifth in the event.
A trio of athletes in field events took home titles. Agnes Esser won the discus throw with a mark of 184 feet, 9 inches, Ayesha Champagnie finished second in the javelin event with a throw of 149 feet, 2 inches. Karlie Place won pole vault with a height that helped her get into the top 10 of Gophers history at 12 feet, 11 inches. Nicolle Murphy won javelin at 184 feet, 3 inches.
Temi Ogunrinde threw a personal record at 212 feet, finishing second in hammer throw. Kiley Sabin was second in the shot put throwing 54 feet, 1 inch. Ashley Ramacher finished second in the high jump at 5 feet, 9 inches to move her into ninth in program history. Lorean Murray finished runner-up in the triple jump with 40 feet, 1 inch to rank eighth in Minnesota History.
“I think it was just a great weekend for the team,” head coach Matt Bingle said. “Everybody’s excited and they know they got things to fix, but everybody feels good about everything.”
Gophers race at Raleigh Relays
Minnesota distance corps competed in the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday and Saturday.
Megan Hasz moved into eighth all time in Gophers history in the 10,000-meter with a time of 34:19.8 to finish sixth in the event. Molly Eastman ran a career best of 35:45.02 to finish 34th.
Carissa Dock paved the way for Minnesota in the 1,500-meter with a career best run of 4:36.03 having her finish 60th in the field of 136. Abby Kohut-Jackson ran a 4:36.98 helping her come in at 67th.
The 4-x-800 meter relay team of Dock, Kohut-Jackson, Delaney FitzPatrick and Paige Peschel went for fifth at 9:06.29.
