Steve Miller has been promoted to Gophers assistant swimming coach this upcoming season, head swimming and diving coach Kelly Kremer announced Wednesday.
Miller has been a volunteer assistant coach with the Gophers for the last two seasons. As a volunteer assistant coach, Miller worked with Kremer and head men's swimming coach Dennis Dale to coach middle-distance freestyle and breaststroke swimmers on the men's and women's teams.
“Steve was an obvious choice for Golden Gopher swimming and diving,” Kremer said in a statement. “He is very well respected among all student-athletes, alumni, and staff associated with our program. We are very fortunate to welcome him as a member of our coaching staff.”
Miller also swam for Minnesota in 2008 and 2009. After he graduated, he was an assistant coach at the Twin Cities Swim Team and St. Croix Swim Club from 2009-11.
"The thing that makes the University of Minnesota so special is the people,” Miller said in a statement. “I am so happy to be a part of this staff and have the opportunity to work with these student-athletes."
Miller will replace former associate head men's and women's swimming and diving coach Bill Tramel. Tramel took the head coaching job at Marshall University in May.
