Williams Arena seats up for highest bidder

Courtside seats at Williams Arena will be available for auction for the fifth straight year, the Gophers men’s athletics department announced.
The seats, located directly behind the scorer’s table at courtside, are available to fans at a starting bid of $2,500, plus the price of the season ticket.
Winning bids generated more than $100,000 last year, and the money goes toward scholarships, said Carrie Pietruszewski, associate development director for men’s athletics.
“Revenue from these seats continued to climb each year,” Pietruszewski said. “Interest in college basketball is greater than ever.”
Men’s athletics will accept written bids for the seats until June 24. Information and bid forms are available at 625-4569.
Clinic set for June 11
The Les Bolstad Golf Course on the St. Paul campus will host the 11th annual Verne Gagne Wrestling, Golf and Tennis Classic on June 11.
This year’s classic will honor former Gophers wrestling coach Wally Johnson. Proceeds will benefit the wrestling program.
The day includes a five-person team scramble golf tournament, tennis, lunch, dinner and other activities. For more information, call Bill Pierce at 625-9356.

Charles McClure of Brookfield, Wis., won the men’s race and Brett Schulze of Minnetonka took the women’s title in Saturday’s 5K Gold Country Run.
McClure, a University sophomore, finished in 16:07. Schulze won with a time of 18:10.
