The U.S. women's basketball team beat the Czech Republic 88-61 on Friday in London.
The Americans suffered a slow start, falling behind 10-0 in the first minutes. The U.S. trailed 26-24 at the end of the first quarter, but it came back to lead 48-38 at the half. The pattern of second-half dominance by the U.S. continued, and the team outscored the Czechs 22-9 and 18-14 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Former Gophers guard Lindsay Whalen did not start, nor did her Minnesota Lynx teammate Seimone Augustus, but Maya Moore finally got the promotion from the second team. Whalen played 20 minutes, tallying eight points with two assists. Augustus played 18 minutes, scoring five points with one assist. Moore played 23 minutes, scoring 14 points with two assists.
The U.S. will take on China on Sunday in its final group stage match. The Americans lead their group and are the only undefeated team left besides France from the other group.
