Momentum, a magazine published by the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment, received a $370,000 grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
The two-year grant will allow the publication to expand its print and online magazines as well as its event series, according to a web exclusive from IonE.
Established in 2008 and printed three times per year, Momentum examines environmental issues on a local and global scale. The publication features University professionals as well as outside experts and covers a variety of problems related to sustainability, energy and natural resources.
The publication also sponsors an event series in which environmental leaders are brought to the University to present on a range of current ecological topics.
Established in 2000, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation is an environmental conservation group based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. The foundation works to implement sustainability projects through investment initiatives and grants to environmental institutions.
“The grant will allow us to significantly expand the Momentum media platform that we’ve created,” said Todd Reubold, director of Momentum.
Reubold said Momentum will launch a completely redesigned website in January 2013.
In addition to expanding the print and online versions of the magazine, Momentum will pilot a mentorship program for individuals in the growing field of environmental communications and expand its overall circulation.
“We’re gonna reach an entirely new audience, not only here in Minnesota but around the country and hopefully around the world,” Reubold said.
