Two Gophers volleyball players made the All-Big Ten Conference team Tuesday. Big Ten coaches voted unanimously for junior middle blocker Tori Dixon and senior outside hitter Katherine Harms to receive the postseason honor.
Dixon made the team last season and was an honorable mention her freshman season. This is Harms' first postseason award.
Junior outside hitter Ashley Wittman earned honorable mention after making All-Big Ten last season. She made the All-Freshman team her first season.
Outside hitter Daly Santana was a unanimous selection to this year's All-Freshman team.
Harms, who led the Gophers with 4.13 kills per set and hit .324, was a strong contender for Big Ten Player of the Year. But the award went to Penn State's Ariel Scott, who had 3.69 kills per set and hit .303.
The top-ranked Nittany Lions won every individual award but one, with Micha Hancock named Setter of the Year, Megan Courtney named Freshman of the Year and Russ Rose named Coach of the Year.
Michigan State's Kori Moster broke up Penn State’s dominance by winning the Defensive Player of the Year award.
The Gophers begin their NCAA tournament campaign Friday against Big South conference champion Liberty at the Sports Pavilion. Minnesota is the No. 8 overall seed in the tournament.
