Gophers women's basketball player Mikayla Bailey was named Freshman of the Week by the Big Ten Conference on Monday.

Bailey averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in a pair of victories in the Subway Classic this past weekend. The Maple Grove native scored a career-high 12 points in Minnesota's victory over Maine in the championship game. 

Star point guard Rachel Banham was the last Gophers player to claim the award when she won it Jan. 31, 2012.
