The U.S. women's volleyball team won three sets to none against Turkey but played the majority of the final set without former Gophers setter Lindsey Berg.

Berg started and made 56 sets, seven digs, three blocks. one spike and nine serves before subbing out in the third set. Berg said on the sidelines that she heard something pop and spent the rest of the match icing and elevating her left ankle. Backup setter Courtney Thompson replaced Berg.

Berg has a history of injuries, including a knee surgery in 2009, and said before the London Games that she planned to retire after.

Head coach Hugh McCutcheon said after the game that the medical staff didn't know anything official yet, but they suspected nothing was torn, just strained. McCutcheon will take over coaching duties at Minnesota once his national team duties are complete.

Turkey came out strong in the first set, pushing the U.S. through several set points before losing it 27-25. The U.S. responded in the second set, winning 25-16. The Americans were slightly unsettled after Berg's injury, but they won the third set 25-19.

The U.S. was undefeated in pool play and topped its group. It will face the Dominican Republic on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
