The undefeated Gophers (4-0) didn't receive a single vote from the media to be among the upper echelon of programs.
However, Minnesota earned some votes in the USA Today coaches poll. After its first test against BCS-level competition, the Gophers received 11 votes (ranking them No. 38 nationally in the poll).
Following a 17-10 victory against Syracuse on Saturday, Minnesota and its tenacious defense had a slim chance of garnering some national attention in the polls. Minnesota won the turnover battle 4-0 against the Orange with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
The Gophers' seven interceptions this season are tied for No. 9 nationally and rank atop the Big Ten next to undefeated Ohio State. Minnesota's 11 sacks are tied at No. 19 out of the 120 top football programs and rank second in the Big Ten behind Nebraska (16 sacks).
