If “Anchorman 2” felt restrained, don’t fret

Will Ferrell et al. are back for a second round of their second round.  The combined geniuses at Paramount and Ferrell’s production company decided to release an R-rated version of “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” for a one week run in theaters.  Starting next Friday, February 28, fans of the man in burgundy can queue at the box office for a chance to see a longer version with “763 entirely new jokes,” per their press release.

While creators promise “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues: Super-Sized R-Rated Version” will be a different experience, it smells like just another brilliant marketing ploy to capitalize on Ferrell’s beloved crew of bumbling newsmen (and a sequel that has already raked in $170 million worldwide).  Maybe it’ll be more than just injected gag reel footage and feature a few plot variations in the mix.  Worth it or not, expect a series of limited edition, customized box and Blu-ray sets in the near future.
