University student Edward Bump was found dead early Friday morning in an apartment complex in Mankato, according to a Mankato Department of Public Safety news release.
Bump’s girlfriend, Lora Docken, a former University student who now attends Minnesota State-Mankato, said she found him after waking up at approximately 5 a.m.
He was lying unconscious on the floor, she said, and she called 911.
Assistant medical examiner for Blue Earth County, Jose Crespo, said the cause of death was asphyxiation from hanging, which appeared to be self-inflicted.
Bump, 19, was visiting friends in Mankato, his father Bill Bump said.
In the news release, police stated alcohol appeared to have been involved in Bump’s death, although Crespo said the results of the toxicology report have not been processed or released.
Bill Bump said friends and family are gathering at their home in Rochester.
Bump was a sophomore in the Carlson School of Management.
Visitation services will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, also in Rochester.
