It was announced on Tuesday that Minnesota women’s basketball head coach Pam Borton will be awarded the Ann Bancroft Award, given to people and organizations “for their accomplishments and support of girls and women.”

She was recognized for her efforts on and off the floor to encourage female student athletes, which includes her summer camps and frequent community appearances, in addition to her work with the basketball team at the University of Minnesota. Borton is one of four recipients given the award each year.

According to the award’s website, “[Borton] has gone beyond the fundamentals of basketball to teach her players life skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives.” The site also credits her with graduating 22 of 23 students who spent their entire Gopher career during Borton’s tenure, and each of her teams have posted a GPA above 3.0.

Borton was recognized in the ‘Induvidual-Support for Girls and Women’ category. The recipients of the award will be honored during a ceremony at the Hyatt Hotel in Minneapolis on April 28. Past winners include United States Senetor Amy Klobuchar, and former State Senetor Mee Moua.
